A workaround is to just take a throwaway hero into the dungeon solo and suicide them into the first party (and maybe try to flee if they stick around on Death's Door for a bit). You still lose a hero but it will pass the week.

So the Houndmaster, Hellion and Jester are great, Highway Man and Graverobber are good. Human damage ring and a bleed trinket are both usefull as are defences. Third character is a healer.
